Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood situated in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" location. People who aren't familiar with the name mistakenly believe that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually, the West Island includes everything westward of Lachine. Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to be born on the West Island. But this is not true. Brugel was born in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 foot 1 inch tall. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement of an instructor in drama from her high school that inspired her to begin acting. The teacher who suggested she try her hand at a character in the annual school production. She threw herself into it and was eventually cast as the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's career has seen her in more than 60 movies and TV productions. Her most famous role was as Rita (shown here) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor for the season 1 of the show and was rarely seen.
